In Tangail, a case against 129 people including the former Minister of State for Commerce under the Speedy Trial Act

In Tangail, a case has been filed against 129 people, including former State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu, under the Speedy Trial Act. The plaintiff in the case is Monir Hossain, a sixth semester student of the law department of the European University of Bangladesh in Dhaka. He is the son of Nuru Mallick of Kalmaid village of Nagarpur upazila of Tangail.
The case was filed in the Tangail Senior Judicial Magistrate's Speedy Trial Court on Monday (September 2). Judge Pashupati Biswas took cognizance of the case and reserved it for order. On Tuesday (September 3) morning, it was informed from the concerned court that the judge has ordered Nagarpur police station to take the case as an FIR. Former Minister of State for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu's younger brother Mojibal Haque Panna has been made accused number 2 in the case. In addition, 150-200 unidentified people have been accused in this case.
It was alleged in the case that during the anti-caste student movement in Nagarpur College Gate area last (July 18), the accused attacked with various indigenous weapons including firearms, machetes and batons under the orders of former Commerce State Minister Ahsanul Islam Titu and his younger brother Mojibal Haque Panna. The accused dispersed the agitators by firing blank bullets and exploding cocktails creating panic there. During this time, at least 10 protestors including the plaintiff were injured.
The plaintiff's lawyer Advocate M. A. Malek Adnan said that the case has been filed under the speedy trial law along with some sections of the penal code. The judge took cognizance of the case and accepted the statement of the plaintiff. Later, he directed the officer-in-charge of Nagarpur police station to take the case as an FIR.
