The continuous movement to demand reform of quota in government jobs started from last July 1. This non-violent movement turned violent from July 15. Take a look at what has happened since the beginning of the movement.

August 4, Sunday

August 1, Thursday
6 coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement in DB custody have been released. A little after 1:30 pm, they left the DB office in a black car.
The government has issued a notification banning Jamaat-e-Islami and Islamic student camps.

July 31, Wednesday
After the 'March for Justice' programme, a section of the anti-discrimination student movement demanding quota reform has announced a new program for Thursday. The day's program is named 'Remembering Our Heroes'.

July 30, Tuesday

July 29, Monday

July 28, Sunday
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detectives have taken Nusrat Tabassum, one of the coordinators of the quota reform movement, into custody.

July 27, Saturday

July 23, Tuesday

July 22, Monday
The Prime Minister has approved the notification prepared as per the order of the court by reforming the quota system.

July 21, Sunday
Apex Court verdict in recruitment to government jobs - 93 percent based on merit as quota system; 5 percent for the children of freedom fighters, martyred freedom fighters and veterans; 1 percent for ethnic minorities and 1 percent for disabled and third gender.

July 20, Saturday
Curfew, army deployment across the country. Declaration of general holidays. Clashes, chases and shootings in different parts of the capital.

July 19, Friday
Massive clashes, attacks, vandalism, firing, arson and loss of life occurred in the capital Dhaka around the program of 'complete shutdown' or complete blockade of students agitating for quota reform. The capital city of Dhaka was virtually immobile, the situation was at a standstill. The agitators said that the 9-point demand will continue until they are met.

July 18, Thursday

July 17, Wednesday
The announcement of 'politicization' by expelling BCL leaders and workers from various universities of the country including Dhaka University.

July 16, Tuesday

July 15, Monday

July 14, Sunday
In the press conference held at Ganabhaban, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "I have nothing to do about the quota." In response to another question, Sheikh Hasina said, "Will the grandchildren of the freedom fighters get jobs?" He called an emergency session in the National Assembly and gave the government 24 hours to demand rational reform of the quota of all grades of government jobs.

July 13, Saturday

The students protested in different university and college campuses of the country even on the holiday on Friday to demand quota reform. After the march at Dhaka University, the students blocked Shahbagh intersection.

July 11, Thursday
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that the anti-quota activists are showing their strength against the Supreme Court. This is unintended and completely illegal.
In a press conference at the Secretariat, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that the students are "crossing the limit".

July 10, Wednesday
The Appellate Division directed the parties to maintain the status quo for four weeks regarding the quota in direct recruitment (9th to 13th grade) in government jobs.
Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan said, "I said on the first day, slogans on the streets do not change the verdict." It's not today, when I was at the International Criminal Tribunal, I said in a case, you can't change a verdict by chanting on the street. This is not the right move.'

July 9, Tuesday
Application of two students seeking postponement of High Court verdict.

July 8, Monday
Blockade at 11 places in Dhaka, protests at 9 universities, blockade of railways at 3 places and blockade of 6 highways. Demand to pass a law in Parliament to abolish unreasonable and discriminatory quotas in all grades in government jobs and keep only minimum quotas for backward communities as per the constitution.

July 7, Sunday
Capital stalled in Bengal blockade. Announcement of suspension of classes and examinations in universities and colleges for an indefinite period.

July 6, Saturday
Protests and blockade programs were held in various universities of the country like the previous day. At that time, the agitators called for class-examination boycott in all universities and colleges, student strike and blockade of roads and highways across the country. It was named 'Bangla Blockade'.

July 5, Friday
The agitators also protested and blocked roads on Friday, a holiday. Road blockade in Chittagong, Khulna and Gopalganj.

July 4, Thursday
The judgment of the High Court regarding the declaration of invalidity of the circular canceling the Muktijoddha quota in the case of direct recruitment to government jobs was not stayed in the Appellate Division. The six-member Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan ordered 'not today'. Students blocked various highways in the country. And blocked Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka for five hours.

July 3, Wednesday
On this day, the agitators blocked the Shahbag intersection of Dhaka for about one and a half hours. Students of six other universities protested and blocked the same demand.

July 2, Tuesday
The agitators marched in front of the Dhaka University Central Library around 3:30 p.m. on this day, passing through Neelkhet, Science Laboratory and Bata Signal Junction, they halted at Shahbagh. There they held a blockade program for one hour.
