Serious allegations have been made against an active gang in Savar, Dhaka, for forging various important government documents including death registration, inheritance certificate, birth registration and National Identity Card (NID). Locals claim that the gang has been carrying out these fraudulent activities in an organized manner for a long time and has been extorting huge amounts of money from the common people. It is learnt that the Savar Municipality authorities have filed a general diary with the Savar Model Police Station in these incidents.

According to local sources, this gang is based in Imandipur and surrounding areas of Savar Municipality and is tempting people to get the work done quickly using the name of government departments. Many people apply through them out of ignorance and later face various legal complications due to fake certificates.

One of the victims is a local youth, Saju Ahmed. He said that he talked to a person from a grocery store adjacent to Imandipur Primary School about registering a death. He got all such work done. The death registration work was done by paying money to a person named Mithu.

A few days later, when he applied to the municipality for an inheritance certificate, the officials concerned asked Saju to bring the original death registration. After submitting the documents, the authorities declared it fake. It was alleged that the certificate was prepared by forging the signature. This put Saju and his family members in extreme trouble.

Saju said that he had the work done through Mithu, a local acquaintance, and that person works in the same way for many others in the area. After the matter came to light, there was widespread concern among the locals.

Meanwhile, a local journalist, Anisur Rahman, was attacked while investigating this fraud ring.

It is alleged that when he asked Mithu, the alleged mastermind of the ring, for information, he was asked to meet him later. Later, he was called and called to the Imandipur area at night. After reaching there, it is alleged that a group of people ambushed him. When the locals came forward, the attackers fled and threatened to kill him. He has filed a complaint with the Savar police station regarding this attack.

Locals allege that Mithu works at a computer shop in the Savar bus stand area. Besides, he conducts illegal activities in the name of creating various documents including birth registration, death registration, NID correction through a computer at a grocery store at Imandipur intersection.

In addition, there are allegations of similar fraud against another person named Tutul at the National Blind Welfare Organization Market in the Savar bus stand area. Locals believe that they are working as an organized gang in collusion with each other.

The victims allege that this gang attracts the common people by changing the name of the government department and promising to make the work easy. Many times, fake certificates are created that look like real documents. Later, people are in danger when they submit these certificates. Some are facing lawsuits, fines or denial of services.

Local conscious people say that since the work related to death registration, birth registration and NID is now online, the common people resort to middlemen in the hope of quick resolution. Fraudulent gangs have become active on this opportunity.

They drew the attention of the administration and said that such fraud is not only a financial fraud but also a threat to national security. Because there is a risk of committing crimes using fake identity cards or documents.
Locals have demanded a quick investigation, arrest of those involved and exemplary punishment. At the same time, the general public has been advised to be careful in receiving government services.

According to those concerned, if you want to receive civil services, you should contact the government office directly. The risk of being a victim of fraud is very high if important documents are prepared by an unknown or unauthorized person.

The police have been informed to investigate this matter and take necessary action.

Regarding these incidents, Savar Municipal Administrator and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Saiful Islam said, "We have now received complaints that signatures have been forged on various documents of Savar Municipality. Recently, we have become suspicious of two documents, where the signatures do not belong to our concerned officials. We have been asked to file a GD in those two matters with the police station. He said that action will be taken against this fraud ring after investigation later."
