Pabna desperate to prevent transfer DB OC Tuhin; Students want punishment

The controversial Officer-in-Charge (OC) Emran Mahmood Tuhin of Pabna District Police's Intelligence Branch (DB) has finally been transferred. However, he is busy lobbying in Dhaka to prevent the transfer.
He is accused of torturing and harassing students during the anti-discrimination student movement. There are also allegations of unethical benefits under the control of illegal sand mahals and illegal syrup companies.
On September 18, he was transferred to the Naval Police through a notification from the Personnel Management-2 branch of the Bangladesh Police. No one has been posted as Officer-in-Charge (OC) of DB Pabna in his place yet.
According to several sources, Emran Mahmud Tuhin became the OC of Pabna DB Police by influencing during the Awami League government. He developed a close relationship with the influential leaders of Awami League. With the opportunity to serve for a long time, he established control in various quarters including Balu Mahal, illegal syrup factory. During the anti-discrimination student movement, they picked up many students and tortured them physically and mentally. Also, during various agitations, BNP and Jamaat activists were raided from house to house and subjected to extensive torture. He is now trying to be close to BNP in the change of power. If he is transferred, he is lobbying hard in Dhaka to prevent the transfer. Earlier, when he was serving in Bogra and Jaipurhat, a departmental case was filed against him and he received light punishment for that charge.
Yashin Arafat, a student of Ishwardi Agricultural College, who participated in the anti-discrimination student movement, said that 7-8 of our students were detained from the terminal by the DB Police and subjected to extensive physical torture. Took away all our mobiles which have not been returned yet. We were severely beaten and broken at the ankles. We want justice.
Kazi Tawfiq, another student from Merrill Bypass area of Pabna said, I was picked up from the mess on July 31 by the DB police. Later tortured me mentally. I spent 7 days in jail. If he does more such harassment then he should be punished accordingly.
Several students, who did not wish to be named, alleged that some students were arrested by the DB police while painting graffiti on the walls during the agitation. Later, the boys were beaten up in the DB office and the girls were abused. Later their guardians were actually mentally tortured and released with immoral benefits.
However, denying these allegations, newly transferred Pabna DB Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Emran Mahmud Tuhin said, 'Wrong information is being spread about me. I did not harass anyone. Allegations are being made without verification. My High Authority knows what I am doing for any purpose.'
In this regard, Pabna Superintendent of Police Mortoza Ali Khan said, 'We have not received such a written complaint. He has been transferred. Anyone can do lobbying. But wait until it succeeds.'
