The bodies of three of the four children who went missing after bathing in the Brahmaputra river in Narayanpur union of Kurigram's Nageshwari upazila have been recovered. 1 child is still missing. Locals recovered the bodies from three upazilas of the district on Thursday (September 12) morning.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kachakata police station Vishwadev Roy confirmed the matter.
The identity of the recovered body has been confirmed. They are Jewel (7) son of Alam Mia of Baghmara village in Narayanpur, Nazmul Hossain (7) son of Nazrul Islam of Char village in Ashtashi and Atiq Hossain (7) son of Ahad Ali. Ahad Ali's daughter and Atiq's sister Ankhi Khatun (9) is still missing.
The OC said that on Thursday morning, the locals recovered the floating body of Atiq Hossain in Kachakata Thana area of Nageshwari, a few kilometers downstream from the incident site. Later, the locals found Jewel's body floating in Brahmaputra in Nazmul in Begamganj Union area of Ulipur Upazila and in Kalirkura area of Raniganj Union in Chilmari. The dead bodies were recovered at different places due to drifting in the night.
Earlier, on Wednesday (September 11) at noon, some children went to take a bath in the Brahmaputra in their village in Narayanpur. At this time, four children went missing due to the sudden stormy waves. They searched the river from noon to evening but could not find them. Finally, the locals recovered their floating bodies from different places downstream from Thursday morning.
Missing Ankhi Khatun was not found till 12 noon on Thursday.
