India is going to become the country with the largest Muslim population in the world in the next 25 years. This sensational information has come out in a recent report by the US-based research organization Pew Research Center. The report says that in just 10 years from 2010 to 2020, the Muslim population around the world increased by about 347 million. Comparatively, this is the highest growth rate compared to other religions.

Asia-Pacific region tops the growth rate of Muslim population
According to Pew Research, the Muslim population has increased at the highest rate in Asia and the Pacific region. In 2010, where Muslims were 23.9 percent of the world's population, it increased to 25.6 percent in 2020.

If this trend continues, the Muslim population will reach 2.8 billion by 2050. At that time, India will surpass Indonesia to become the country with the largest Muslim population in the world.
Religious population change in India
The report also highlights the religious changes in India's population.

In 2010, the Hindu population in India was 80 percent, which decreased to 79 percent in 2020.

At the same time, the Muslim population increased from 14.3 percent to 15.2 percent.

That is, the Muslim population in India has increased by 35.6 million in 10 years.

The main reason behind this increase is the fertility rate. The report says that although the conversion rate is relatively low, the birth rate among Muslims is relatively high.

Population figures of other religions around the world
According to the report, the population changes of Hindus, Christians, Buddhists and atheists among other religions are as follows:

Christians: 2.18 billion in 2010 → 2.3 billion in 2020

Percentage decrease: 30.6% → 28.8%

Hindu: Total number in the world is 1.2 billion in 2020 (14.9%)

Hindu population has increased by 12% in 10 years

Buddhists: Population has decreased significantly

The expansion of this religion is hampered by the declining birth rate, especially in China

Atheists: An increase of 270 million in 10 years to 1.9 billion now

24.2 percent of the total population is now secular or atheist

Future forecast
The Pew Research Center says that if this trend continues, there will be a major change in the global religious population in the next few decades. Analysts believe that the rapid growth of India's Muslim population will have a huge impact on society, politics and the economy.
