Chilmari woman beaten up by Jubo Dal leader, complaint to police station

Rezaul Karim, the joint convener of Chilmari Upazila Juba Dal of Kurigram, has been accused of beating up a woman in her sixties. The incident took place on Saturday (September 7) afternoon in Majider Par area of Thanahat Union of the upazila. The victim's son filed a written complaint at the Chilmari Police Station on Sunday (September 8).
The victim of the incident said, "In the afternoon, I went to the pump junction to look for my son." On the way back home, Rezaul stopped me and started abusing me. At one point he pushed me and I fell on the nearby bench. Then he slapped me. At that time my son and son's wife came forward and started slapping them too. Later, the locals rescued us and brought us home.
Locals Aminul, Jabbar Ali, Hafizur, Milon Mia, Jamal and many others said that Rezaul Karim is misbehaving with many people in the area by showing the power of the party. There are also allegations of extortion against him. Locals also said that the woman was attacked due to a land dispute.
Rezaul Karim, the joint convener of the accused Upazila Jubo Dal, said, "I did not kill that woman but she fell on me." I removed Allegations are being made to harass me.
Rahul Amin (Zia), Member Secretary of Upazila Youth Dal, said, "I have heard that it is very sad that anyone who defames the name of Jubo Dal, action will be taken against him."
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chilmari Model Police Station Pranakrishna Debnath said, "I have received a complaint. An investigation is underway. Legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
