In Tarabo municipality of Rupganj, Narayanganj, husband Noor Jamal has been accused of hacking his wife and children to death due to a dispute over multiple marriages. The incident happened early on Saturday (September 7).
The deceased are Roksana Begum (30) and her daughter Jannatul Ferdous (5). The name of the accused is Noor Jamal. He has been absconding since the incident.
Seema Akhtar, sister of the deceased housewife, said, "My sister worked as a laborer in a garment factory." He met Noor Jamal 8 years ago. After a long love affair they got married. My sister has not been able to go to work due to illness for the past one month. Her husband Noor Jamal also did not work. As Noor Jamal married my sister multiple times without informing her, there were frequent quarrels between them. My sister and her husband had an argument about this last night.
He also said that at one point Noor Jamal stabbed my sister with a sharp weapon in the early hours of the morning and seriously injured my sister. At that time, Jannat, a five-year-old girl, screamed and cut her and injured her. Nur Jamal ran away when the people around them came forward with their screams. Later local people took my sister and niece seriously injured to the local hospital where my sister Roksana died. Meanwhile, Shishu Jannat died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical this afternoon.
Inspector (Investigation) of Rupganj Police Station said, "We have initially come to know that the murder was caused by a family dispute." Accused husband Noor Jamal is absconding. We are trying to nab the accused. Legal proceedings are ongoing in this regard.
