Bangladesh-Malaysia match abandoned; Pakistan awaits in semi-final

Bangladesh has advanced to the semi-finals of the Asian Games men's cricket tournament after their quarter-final match against Malaysia was abandoned due to rain. Not a single ball was bowled. Litton Das's team secured a spot in the last four by virtue of their higher ranking.

The match was scheduled for Tuesday (September 29) at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. Bangladesh will face Pakistan in the semi-final on Thursday; Reuters reported this latest update.

The previous day, the quarter-final matches between Pakistan and Hong Kong, as well as India and Afghanistan, also failed to take place due to rain. India and Pakistan advanced to the semi-finals based on their rankings.

Litton and his team arrived in Japan well-prepared
Persistent rain limited Bangladesh's training opportunities in Japan. However, captain Litton Das had anticipated such conditions and prepared accordingly.
Speaking to reporters before the match, he noted that the team had trained adequately back home. He had also mentally prepared the players for the possibility of limited practice time upon arrival in Japan.
According to Litton, the challenges regarding rain and training limitations are the same for all teams; thus, they strove to prepare using the facilities provided by the organizers.

Bangladesh's primary goal at the Asian Games is to reach the final. The captain stated that thoughts of the gold medal would come only after that stage. Considering the strength of teams like India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, he intends to approach each match with due importance.
Litton also suggested that the pitch might assist the bowlers. Before the match, he had outlined a plan to field a team comprising five bowlers and six batters.
Shanto ruled out due to illness
Bangladesh has lost the services of Najmul Hossain Shanto right at the start of the campaign. According to a BCB statement, the decision was made to send him back home after he suffered from a fever for several days.
Shamim Patwary is being considered as a replacement for Shanto. However, his inclusion was not confirmed in the submitted report. Now, on the path to the final, Bangladesh faces the challenge of defeating Pakistan.
