Austrian cricketer Karanvir Singh has written a unique history. He now holds the record for scoring the highest number of runs in a calendar year in the T20 format. This right-handed batsman has set a new milestone by breaking the world record of former Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan. The 30-year-old Karanvir scored 248 runs in the four-match series during the recently concluded tour of Romania. He has written several records in his name with these runs.
So far this year, Karanvir has scored 1488 runs with the bat in 32 innings of 32 matches, including 2 centuries and 13 half-centuries. With this performance, he has broken Rizwan's record from 2021. That year, the Pakistani wicketkeeper batsman scored 1326 runs in 26 innings of 29 matches, including 1 century and 12 half-centuries.
Along with runs, Karanvir has also surpassed Rizwan in terms of four-sixes. So far this year, he has hit 127 fours and 122 sixes, both world records. Rizwan hit 119 fours in 2021, while India's Suryakumar Yadav has topped the list of sixes so far, hitting 68 sixes in 2022.
Although he is not a regular face in international cricket for Austria, Karanvir Singh has proven with his consistent performances that dreams can be big even when the boundaries are small. His remarkable success in European cricket has sparked a new discussion in the cricket world.
According to experts, Karanvir's performance has not only raised the standard of European cricket, but has also opened new horizons for the development of cricket in small countries in international T20s.
