A defamation case worth 100 crore taka has been filed against Mufti Amir Hamza, a member of parliament from Kushtia-3 constituency in Sirajganj. The case was filed on the charge of calling Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku an 'atheist and Islamophobic'.

On Monday (March 30), Advocate SM Nazmul Islam, former general secretary of the District Nationalist Lawyers Association, filed the case under Section 500 of the Penal Code in the Sirajganj Sadar Administrative Court.

Court Judge Suman Kumar Karmakar took cognizance of the case and kept it pending for an order.

The plaintiff claims that Mufti Amir Hamza publicly defamed the minister by making such comments, due to which legal action has been taken.

It is worth noting that last Friday (March 27), while delivering a speech before the Friday sermon at a mosque in Kushtia Sadar Upazila, Mufti Amir Hamza made controversial comments about Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.

According to legal experts, if the case is accepted in court, the next legal process will be determined based on the statements and evidence of both parties.
