An unidentified mentally unstable woman who had been roaming around the Savar bus stand area of Dhaka for a long time has finally found safe shelter. This arrangement was made possible with the humanitarian initiative of local journalist Nazmul Huda Shaheen and the cooperation of locals.
It is learned that the woman had been seen roaming around the Savar bus stand and surrounding areas for a long time. Although she was known to the locals, no information about her identity or family was available. Out of a sense of humanitarian responsibility, journalist Nazmul Huda Shaheen used to regularly inquire about her and had been helping her in various ways.
He said that the woman could not stay anywhere permanently due to mental problems. Later, with the help of locals, the matter was brought to the attention of the Upazila Social Services Office. The concerned authorities took the matter seriously and took prompt action.
According to sources from the Social Services Office, no relatives of the woman could be found despite various searches. Later, she was identified as a 'floating mentally unstable homeless woman' and sent to the Child and Old Age Care shelter in Birulia area of Savar.
The combined efforts of the locals, including Upazila Social Service Officer KM Shahiduzzaman and shelter manager Milton Samaddar, played an important role in this humanitarian initiative. The efforts of those involved in the entire process, from rescue to reaching the shelter, have been appreciated by the locals.
According to informed circles, such humanitarian initiatives set a positive example in the society and provide inspiration to stand by the helpless people.
