Mosque imam arrested on charges of child rape in Trishal

Police have arrested a mosque imam in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh on charges of sexually assaulting a five-year-old child. The incident is alleged to have taken place at a Jama Masjid in the Chikna Manohar area of the upazila.
Police said the accused worked as an imam and khatib at the mosque. Local sources said that several children, including the victim, used to receive religious education from him.
According to the complaint, when the child did not return home even after the stipulated time, his mother went to the mosque to check on him. Seeing a suspicious situation there, she screamed and local people gathered. Later, the accused was arrested and informed the police.
After the incident, a case was filed by the child's family at the police station. The police have taken the accused into custody and taken necessary legal action.
Trishal police station officials said that a case has been registered on the basis of the complaint and the process of sending the accused to court has been completed. At the same time, the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The incident has created a huge stir in the area. Locals have demanded a proper investigation into the incident and exemplary punishment for the culprits.
