5 Jamaat-BNP leaders detained while trying to release drug dealer

Police have taken 5 leaders of Jamaat and BNP into custody while lobbying the police station to release an identified drug dealer in Mirpur, Kushtia. The incident took place at Mirpur police station on Saturday (May 9) night. Locals were seen expressing satisfaction over the incident.
The arrested drug dealer, Rabiul Islam (33), is the son of Ramzan Ali of Nawda Azampur area of Mirpur upazila.
The people taken into custody by the police station are Sadarpur Union Parishad member and BNP leader Enamul Haque (45), Jamaat leader Alauddin (43), Sujan Ali (33), Shafiqul Islam (25) and Saidul Islam (39).
Mirpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Shahidul Islam said that the police are taking a strict stance to eradicate drugs in the area. When identified drug dealer Rabiul Islam was arrested on Saturday, some people identified as BNP and Jamaat members came to the police station at night to lobby for his release.
He also said that 4 people from Jamaat and 1 person from BNP have been taken into police station custody for lobbying on behalf of the drug dealer. Legal action will be taken against them.
