Independent candidate Asha Mani has become the center of discussion in the election field of Thakurgaon-3 constituency. Instead of making big development promises or political slogans, she has appeared before the voters with a different appeal. In a speech that went viral on social media, Asha Mani said, “Vote for me, if I win, I will make marriage arrangements easy for everyone.” This exceptional promise of hers has already generated a lot of curiosity and discussion in the election field.
Asha Mani made this comment while talking to a journalist during a public meeting in Nekmorad area of Ranishankail upazila on Wednesday (January 28). The video of the interview instantly went viral on social media and netizens reacted with humor and funny comments. Some are seeing the matter as a funny trick, while others are evaluating it as a novel tactic to attract the attention of voters.
During the mass communication, Asha Mani, surrounded by young voters, said with a natural smile that many young brothers are requesting her to arrange their marriages. Referring to that, she said, “My message to the young brothers—give me one vote each. If I am elected, I will try to make your marriages easier. Not only the young, but also grandparents, uncles and aunts—I have one request for everyone, give me one vote each as a wedding gift.”
Asha Mani’s statement is causing a flood of laughter on social media. A netizen named Jaydev Debnath commented in a humorous manner, “Some want to give me heaven, some a family card, and Asha Mani wants to give you a wife or husband!”—such comments further increased the discussion on the net world.
It is worth noting that Asha Mani had participated in the local government elections before. Although the results of the vote were not in her favor at that time and she received a small number of votes. However, regardless of the vote count, local social activist Ambia Khatun believes that Asha Mani is a brave and exceptional voice in the fight for women's empowerment and rights. According to her, such initiatives to increase women's participation in electoral politics serve as an inspiration.
A total of 10 candidates, including Asha Mani, are contesting in the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections in Thakurgaon-3 constituency. Out of the three parliamentary constituencies in the entire Thakurgaon district, only two are female candidates. One of them is Jatiya Party's Nurunnahar Begum in Thakurgaon-2 constituency, and the other is the much-discussed independent candidate Asha Mani, who has already caught everyone's attention with her unconventional campaign.
