The Bichali Union Jamaat-e-Islami has held a press conference in protest against the propaganda against Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the incident of arson at the election office of Islami Andolan Bangladesh in Narail. The press conference was held after Maghrib on Monday (January 26) at the election office of Jamaat-e-Islami located in the Tin Shop area of Bichali Union in Narail Sadar Upazila.
The press conference was attended by the Ten-Party Unity Alliance of Narail-1 constituency and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's parliamentary candidate Maulana Obaidullah Kaiser. In addition, Bichali Union No. 12 Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Youth Division President Md. Hasibul Molya, Kolora Union No. 8 Ameer Hafez A. Hannan, along with leaders and activists of district, upazila and union levels of Jamaat-e-Islami and its affiliated organizations.
The speakers alleged that the Ameer and MP candidates of the Islamic Movement Bangladesh (Hatpakha) are systematically spreading false and baseless propaganda against Jamaat-e-Islami. They said that Jamaat-e-Islami believes in the politics of justice and fairness. Therefore, they demanded a proper investigation into the arson incident, identification of the real culprits and exemplary punishment.
Speaking at the press conference, Maulana Obaidullah Kaiser said that as soon as he learned about the incident of setting fire to the election office of the Islamic Movement Bangladesh, he contacted the administration and demanded a proper investigation and identification of the culprits. He strongly condemned and protested the incident and said that the fabricated and baseless statement made by the Nayeb-e-Ameer of the Islamic Movement and MP candidate implicating Jamaat-e-Islami is unintentional and intentional. He said, "For the past 17 years, we have endured imprisonment, oppression and torture, but we have not engaged in politics of revenge against anyone. We believe in peaceful coexistence. We must stop trying to tarnish the image of Jamaat-e-Islami by spreading false information.’
In this regard, Chairman of Bichali Union Parishad and former president and current convener of Narail District Krishak Dal, Hemayet Hossain Faruk, said that the incident of setting fire to the election office of Hatpakha is very sad. He said that Islami Andolan Bangladesh has placed the responsibility on Jamaat-e-Islami for this incident, which is unacceptable without an investigation. He demanded that the real culprits be identified through an impartial investigation.
It is worth noting that on Monday (January 25) late at night, unknown miscreants set fire to the election office of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (Hatpakha) located in the Three Shops area of Bichali Union in Narail Sadar Upazila. In this, various items including chairs, tables, microphones, hand fans and election symbols of the office were completely burnt.
Earlier on the same night, there was an altercation between Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists in that area over election campaigning. Although the situation was later normalized through negotiations between both parties, arson occurred a few hours later late at night.
