‘Share photos of voting in postal ballots, NID will be blocked’

The Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) has said that strict punitive measures will be taken, including blocking the National Identity Card (NID) of the voter concerned, if photos or videos of voting in postal ballots are shared on social media. This decision has been taken to protect the secrecy of voting and maintain electoral discipline.
According to Election Commission sources, postal voting is a sensitive and secret process. Taking photos or videos of ballot papers or voting scenes during this process and publishing them on social media is a punishable offense. This violates the secrecy of voting and violates election rules.
A message sent by the EC said that protecting the secrecy of postal voting is not only the right of the voter, but also the responsibility. If any voter intentionally shares voting information, ballot photos or videos on Facebook or any other social media, then legal action will be taken against him.
The message further states that the national identity card of the person involved in such activities may be temporarily or permanently blocked. In addition, other punitive measures will also be taken as per the election law. There is also a possibility of facing fines or other legal complications.
In this situation, the Election Commission has warned all voters and specifically requested them to refrain from posting and sharing any kind of pictures, videos or information related to postal voting on social media. The Election Commission believes that conscious and responsible behavior of voters is very important to maintain the secrecy of voting and the transparency of the election system.
