The nomination of Dr. Tasnim Zara, an independent candidate for the Dhaka-9 parliamentary constituency and former NCP leader, has been cancelled. On Saturday (December 3), the Dhaka District Returning Officer officially announced the cancellation of her nomination at around 11:30 am. Discussions and reactions have started in the political arena after this decision.

Reacting to the cancellation of the nomination, Dr. Tasnim Zara said that she will appeal against this decision and the appeal process has already been started. She expressed hope that justice will be achieved through the legal process.

Dr. Tasnim Zara said that the Election Commission has mentioned the conditions set for independent candidates as the reason for canceling the nomination. According to the rules, at least 1 percent of the total voters of the concerned parliamentary constituency have to submit signatures. She claimed that she submitted about 200 additional signatures than the prescribed number.

She further said that during the verification of the submitted signatures, the Election Commission checked the information of 10 voters. Out of these, the information of 8 people was found to be correct, but there were complications in the case of 2 people. The two of them signed thinking that they were voters of Dhaka-9 constituency. Although their address was in Khilgaon area, Tasnim Zara claimed that they were not aware of this information that some parts of that area were not Dhaka-9, but belonged to another parliamentary constituency nearby.

Raising a complaint in this regard, Dr. Tasnim Zara said that the opportunity to verify specific information about the voter area from the Election Commission's website was limited. Even after collecting the voter number, they could not be sure. She further claimed that the copy of the national identity card of one of the two people mentioned him as a voter of Dhaka-9 constituency. However, the Election Commission says that he is not a voter of that constituency, which she raised questions about.

It is worth noting that last Saturday (December 27), the party's senior joint member secretary Dr. Tasnim Zara resigned from the NCP. In a post on social media Facebook that evening, he said that he had decided to participate in the 13th National Parliament election from Dhaka-9 constituency as an independent candidate, not as a candidate of any party or alliance.

After the cancellation of the nomination and the announcement of the appeal, the electoral situation of Dhaka-9 constituency has come under renewed discussion. Now, political circles and voters are looking forward to the outcome of the appeal.
