Newly elected VP Ibrahim Hossain Rony, GS Sayeed Bin Habib and other members of the Sampriti Students' Alliance Panel supported by Islami Chhatra Shibir visited the grave of Shaheed Abdur Rab, the first general secretary (GS) of the Chittagong University Central Students' Union (Chaksu).
On Saturday (October 18) afternoon, they visited the grave of Shaheed Rab in the Enayet Bazar Goalpara area adjacent to CRB in Chittagong city. At that time, CU branch Chhatra Shibir President Mohammad Ali led the way.
Shaheed Abdur Rab was a student of the History Department of Chittagong University. He was elected General Secretary (GS) in the first Chaksu election held in 1970. He was martyred by Pakistani forces in the battle of Engineering College (now Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology - CUET) area in Rangunia on April 13, 1971.
After visiting the grave, newly elected VP Ibrahim Hossain Rony said,
“Among those who were represented in Chaksu, I think Shaheed Abdur Rab Bhai contributed the most. On the one hand, he was an elected GS, on the other hand, he never hesitated to give his life for the country. He went above and beyond everything and fought for the nation. We can never be Shaheed Abdur Rab Bhai, that is not possible. However, we want that we can work for the country from the same thoughts from which he gave his life for the country.”
Newly elected GS Saeed Bin Habib said, “Abdur Rab Bhai gave his life for the independence of Bangladesh in the great war of independence in 1971. Today, we prayed for those who gave their lives for the establishment of truth and justice in all movements from 1971, 1947 to 2024. We prayed that the interests of university students, not party ideology, should be the main goal of our work.”
Mohammad Ali, president of the CU branch of the student wing, said, “We have come here today to remember the role played by Shaheed Abdur Rab in achieving the country’s independence. We want to continue on the path of establishing equality, human dignity and social justice with the inspiration with which they worked to liberate the country.” It is worth noting that the seventh CHAKSU election was held at Chittagong University after a long 35 years on October 15. In this, the Sampriti Student Alliance supported by the Islami Chhatra Shibir won 24 out of 26 posts.
