Awami League fascist forces in the name of 'July fighters' have created chaos in the parliament area, real July fighters cannot do such things: Salahuddin Ahmed

BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has alleged that Awami League leaders and activists are responsible for the chaos that occurred in the capital's Sangsad Bhaban area on the day of the signing ceremony of the 'July Charter'. He said, "Those who behaved in the name of July fighters are not real July fighters. Real July fighters can never behave in such fascist ways."

He made these comments in response to questions from journalists after paying homage to the Ziaur Rahman Foundation on the occasion of the 26th founding anniversary of the BNP at the mausoleum of martyred President Ziaur Rahman at Chandrima Udyan in the capital on Saturday (October 18) morning.

Salahuddin Ahmed said, “On the day of the signing of the July Charter, a group of individuals known as the Awami Fascist Army created chaos in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area. They have behaved anti-democratically and tried to mislead the nation. Yet they are claiming to be ‘July fighters’, which is completely false, misleading and purposeful.”

He also said, “We believe in democracy, but the Awami League is afraid of democracy. They have created such an army to destroy the unity and peaceful environment of the people.”

Earlier, on Friday, after a long eight-month dialogue and consensus process, the ‘July National Charter’ was finally signed. At this historic event organized at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, representatives of 24 political parties including the President and Chief Advisor of the National Consensus Commission Dr. Muhammad Yunus signed the charter. However, five political parties including the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) abstained from signing.

In this context, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “Some parties have not yet signed the charter, but I think this is a temporary decision. In the interest of democracy and the welfare of the nation, they will also join very soon.”

He further added, “We do not want anyone to be left out. All political forces should participate in shaping the future of the country. The nation can move forward only on the basis of patience, tolerance and mutual respect.”

Calling for political tolerance ahead of the upcoming national elections, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “Politics does not mean considering the opponent as the enemy. Despite differences of opinion, everyone has to work together for the development of the state and democracy. This is the beauty of democracy.”

He concluded by saying, “BNP wants to resolve the country’s political crisis through dialogue and peaceful democratic processes. We believe that the people will determine the future of the country.”
