After a long wait, the July Memorial Museum built to preserve the memory of the student movement is finally going to be inaugurated. The museum will be officially inaugurated on August 5 and it is planned to open it for general visitors from the same day. Those concerned said that this initiative has been taken to highlight the history, sacrifice and struggle of the movement to the new generation.
This decision was taken in a preparatory meeting held on the occasion of the celebration of the July People's Uprising Day-2026 and the inauguration of the July Memorial Museum in the meeting room of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs at the Secretariat on Wednesday. Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury presided over the meeting. Inauguration ceremony, visitor management, security and other preparations were discussed in detail in the meeting.
The museum houses various important photographs, videos, rare documents, archived newspaper reports, banners used in the movement, placards, clothing and personal mementos of the martyrs and wounded of the July Movement. Besides, through multimedia and digital display, the movement's continuous flow of events, important moments and eyewitness experiences will be highlighted. An informative archive is also maintained for researchers and students.
According to the museum authorities, it is not just a place of remembrance; Rather, historical preservation, research and informing future generations about the context of the movement will play an important role. After the meeting, the director general of the museum, Tanzim Wahab, said that in view of the opening, the preparation of exhibition materials, installation of digital content, security system and visitor services are almost at the final stage. It may be noted that the inauguration was announced several times during the interim government, but it was not implemented due to various reasons. This time, work is underway to inaugurate the museum on schedule.
