Dispute with trade unions in Bhajanpur, blockade of highway for 4 hours

Published: 03:09 2 July 2026
In Bhajanpur of Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh, tension has arisen among workers over the pulling up of signboards by separate labor organizations using the same name and registration number. As a result, the angry workers blocked the Panchagarh-Tentulia National Highway for about four hours on Wednesday afternoon. Later they lifted the blockade with the assurance of the administration.
The workers complained that a new signboard was put up recently using the name and registration number of a long-established trade union. This has created confusion and conflict among the workers. Hundreds of vehicles were stuck on both sides and commuters suffered a lot when they occupied the highway demanding the removal of the new signboard.
The aggrieved workers claim that they have all the valid documents of the concerned organizations. They complained that this situation has arisen from the initiative of forming another new branch. If the problem is not resolved quickly, they also warned of more stringent programs in the future.
Tentulia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Afroz Shahin Khosru said, went to the spot and talked to both parties. To verify the matter, the concerned organizations have been instructed to appear at the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer with the necessary documents. Further action will be taken based on the investigation, he said.
