Special allocation of Tk 500 crore for AI sector, government aims to modernize citizen services

An allocation of Tk 500 crore has been announced in the next fiscal year budget to make government services easier, faster and more people-friendly by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
While presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the National Parliament on Thursday, Finance Minister Amir Khusru Mahmud Chowdhury said that AI, the electronics industry and the innovative capabilities of the youth are being considered as the main driving forces of the country's development strategy.
He said that the government has adopted AI technology as an important component of national development and administrative modernization. Through this, the formation of smart cities, digitalization of citizen services and the use of modern technology in the education system will be further expanded.
In his budget speech, the Finance Minister also mentioned that the government is giving special importance to developing the skills of the youth, building a startup culture, creating opportunities in the freelancing and content creation sectors and creating AI-based entrepreneurs.
It was also reported that AI technology will be used to improve data-driven decision-making in government planning. This is expected to increase administrative transparency, efficiency and accountability.
He also said that through this investment, the goal of transforming Bangladesh into a technology-based and innovative economy will be advanced. This fund will play an important role in creating new opportunities, especially for women entrepreneurs and youth.
According to experts, such allocations to the AI sector will further accelerate the country's digital transformation and help strengthen the foundation of the future economy.
