Assistant Professor Inzamul Haque has applied for resignation from the post of President of Geography and Environment Department of Islamic University (EB) 4 days before the end of the term in the face of students' demands.
On Saturday (September 14) night, he submitted his resignation along with the protesting students and the registrar. Earlier, the students started a movement in the department with 9-point demands, including resolution of the department's session congestion and change of the name of the department.
It is known that the students of the department were angry for a long time due to the session jam. They were making demands to the teachers about the matter. On this side, due to the agitation for the fall of the government, the class-examination was stopped for 2 months and the session congestion increased.
In view of this incident, the students went to the teachers of the department with 9 points of demand on Saturday morning. At one stage of talking about the matter, they accused of misbehaving and harassing the teachers and demanded the resignation of the department president if the teachers did not comply with their demands.
Later, according to the decision taken in the meeting of the departmental academic committee, the president submitted the resignation letter to the students and the registrar, declaring that all the demands of the students were accepted. Meanwhile, the term of Inzamul Haque will end on September 18.
According to the resignation letter, in view of the demands of the students of the department and due to personal reasons, he requested to be relieved from the responsibility of managing the department.
In this regard, department president Inzamul Haque said, 'Students have expressed no confidence in me. They presented 9 point demands to me in a very aggressive manner from the beginning. They informed me that if I cannot accept the demand, I will have to resign. Besides, they have disrespected me through various statements. So I resigned to them as per their demand.'
Students of the department said, we did not apply any pressure to the president to resign. We only stated our demands. Besides, we talked about various corruption and irregularities in the department. But I did not use any unpleasant words. President announced to accept our demands. But later he voluntarily resigned. We didn't talk about him resigning.
