Attack on traders 'led by BNP leader' in Old Dhaka

Due to extortion, businessmen including the president of Bikrampur Garden City of Islampur in Old Dhaka were attacked. Businessmen alleged that local BNP leaders and activists are behind this attack. The businessmen later clashed with BNP leaders and workers over the incident.

At least 10 people were reported injured. Clashes started today (Wednesday) around 5 pm. The clash was going on till the report was written at 7:30.

It is known that a donation of Tk 10 lakh was demanded from Bikrampur Garden City president Babul Hossain Babu yesterday. Because of this, BNP activists found him alone in Islampur today and beat him up. Later, 200 BNP activists entered the market in Bikrampur Garden City and attacked. Because of this, the traders of Patuatuli, Islampur and Sadarghat areas took to the streets.

Angry traders said, after the attack on our market president Babu Bhai, more than two hundred people of BNP came and attacked our market. They had indigenous weapons including Churi, Ramda. They attacked us with Tokais from Sadarghat. Businessmen said that the attack was led by BNP leaders Sohrab Hossain and Noor Hossain.

In this regard, the officer in charge (OC) of Kotwali police station. Enamul Hasan said, who along with Noor Islam should beat Babul Hossain Babu, president of the market committee. They might be student groups or something. The situation is somewhat heated in this incident. Hope everything goes well. Those involved in the incident, we will take action subject to investigation. We currently have three people in our custody.
