Worker rescued alive from mine collapse rubble after 17 days

A man has been rescued alive after 17 days of an explosion and landslide in a mine in Rustam tehsil of Mardan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan. He was rescued from under the rubble by Rescue 1122 on Thursday.

On March 31, a huge rockfall started from above while extracting stones in a mine in Nangabad area of ​​Rustam. This crushed the workers working in the mine. It is reported that eight workers have died so far in the incident.

In a video message, rescue agency official Syed Abbas said that the name of the person rescued alive is Abdul Wahab. He is a resident of Mohmand district. After a long 17-day rescue operation, he was able to be brought out alive. He was given first aid immediately after the rescue.

He also said that although information was received about others trapped after the accident, one was believed to be missing. It is believed that the person was eventually rescued alive.

Landslides have become a regular occurrence in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Especially in the mountainous areas of Upper Dir, Chitral, Kohistan and Swat, local residents are often at risk due to the fragile terrain and steep slopes.
