After days of conflict, India and Pakistan have finally moved towards a ceasefire. When the conflict was about to reach its peak, both sides took peace initiatives with the mediation of the United States. The American media outlet CNN reported that India was shocked by the scale of Pakistan's counterattack and sincerely participated in the peace talks.
According to a live update published by CNN on Saturday (May 10), the United States played an important role behind the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan. A high-ranking source in the Pakistani government told CNN that the talks intensified only when the war situation was about to get out of hand.
The source also said that while moving towards a peace agreement, India launched air-to-surface missile attacks on three Pakistani air bases early Saturday. This surprised Islamabad, because it thought the talks were almost at their final stage. In response to India's surprise attack, Pakistan retaliated by attacking Indian air bases and military installations on the Kashmir border in an 'eye for an eye' policy.
According to the CNN report, the scale of Pakistan's retaliatory attack was so surprising that India quickly returned to the talks. Although India still launched some rocket attacks and Pakistan also retaliated, the talks did not stop due to US diplomatic efforts.
The Pakistani source said that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio played a key role in advancing the talks. At that time, officials from Saudi Arabia and Turkey also actively participated in the mediation.
No new attacks were reported by Saturday afternoon. Two hours later, the two countries officially announced a ceasefire.
Although Pakistan claims that US mediation played a central role, Indian officials disagreed on this. According to them, the ceasefire was reached through direct talks between the two countries, and there was not much external influence here.
Thus, in the context of some further international diplomatic efforts and counter-military pressure, India and Pakistan have once again moved away from the brink of an uncertain war and returned to the path of peace.
