The newly created tension between India and Pakistan was quickly turning into a terrible conflict. In the context of the ongoing border clashes, air and missile attacks between the two countries, concern spread in the international community. At that time, the US intelligence agency seized an important piece of information, which raises fears of deepening the crisis.
According to the secret information received on Friday morning, the possibility that the India-Pakistan war could escalate into a nuclear conflict at any time has emerged. US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House Chief of Staff Suzie Wiles quickly began reviewing the situation. After informing President Donald Trump about the matter, Vice President Vance directly called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In the phone call, Vance made it clear that the risk of escalating the conflict is very high at this moment. He urged Modi to contact India and Pakistan directly so that a peaceful solution can be found. The US believed that there was no effective communication between Delhi and Islamabad at that time.
The US State Department remained in contact with relevant officials from both countries throughout the night. Although the US was not directly involved in drafting any peace agreement, its diplomatic pressure played an effective role in bringing the two countries to the negotiating table and convincing them to agree to a ceasefire.
Finally, on Saturday morning, India and Pakistan announced an immediate ceasefire. This ended the ongoing shelling, airstrikes and drone strikes.
This important announcement came on President Donald Trump’s Truth social account, where he wrote, “After a long night of talks, India and Pakistan have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to both countries for their common sense and extraordinary prudence.”
The ceasefire was then officially confirmed from New Delhi and Islamabad. The fear of a sudden war in South Asia subsided somewhat.
According to analysts, the situation could have been much worse without US intervention. It is not yet clear what kind of intelligence led the US to act so quickly, but many believe it was related to the possibility of nuclear weapons being used.
