Charities such as Oxfam and Transparency International have called on Bangladeshi-origin British MP Tulip Siddique to step down from her anti-corruption role at the Finance Ministry. A BBC report has revealed that this demand has been made due to allegations of financial irregularities involving the former Bangladesh government and her family.
Tulip has been accused of her family's involvement in the embezzlement of about 3.9 billion pounds from Bangladesh. In addition, the demand for her resignation has become stronger after she concealed the information about receiving two free flats in London. After the matter was revealed, Conservative leader Kem Badenoch called on Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to dismiss Tulip. However, Starmer still has confidence in Tulip.
Meanwhile, Tulip herself has called for an independent investigation by Britain's quality advisor. She claims that she did nothing wrong and took the right steps.
His family is being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Bangladesh over allegations that his family members received illegal financial transactions while mediating a nuclear power project.
The Anti-Corruption Coalition believes that such allegations could tarnish Britain's reputation while Tulip is in charge. They have therefore called on the British government to take swift and specific action in the interest of its reputation.
