50,000 fine for applying chicken manure to fish enclosures in Keshabpur, 1 lakh taka fine for illegal soil cutting

Several mobile court drives have been conducted in Keshabpur Upazila of Jessore to protect public health and agricultural land. In two separate drives, a total of 1.5 lakh taka fines have been collected for applying chicken manure to fish enclosures and illegally cutting soil from agricultural land.

According to upazila administration sources, fish produced by using poultry and chicken manure as fish food is being sold in the market, which is a serious risk to human health. There is a risk of contracting various complex diseases including cancer. In this context, a drive was conducted on January 19 at a fish enclosure owned by Matiar Rahman of Sannyasgachha village of Gourighona Union of Keshabpur Upazila. Chicken manure was being applied to that enclosure for a long time, which was already banned by the administration. For violating the ban, Upazila Executive Officer Rexona Khatun went to the spot and arrested the enclosure manager Debashish Roy red-handed along with chicken droppings.

Later, a mobile court was set up there and a fine of Tk 50,000 was imposed on the enclosure owner as per the Fish Food and Animal Feed Act, 2010, which was collected immediately.

Meanwhile, another operation was conducted in Golaghata village of Keshabpur upazila at around 10 pm on the previous day, January 18. A mobile court was set up under the leadership of Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Rexona Khatun on charges of illegally cutting soil from agricultural land. In the operation, a person named Kazi Harun was fined Tk 1 lakh as per the Balumahal and Soil Management Act, 2010 (Amended 2023) and that fine was also collected.

Upazila Executive Officer Rexona Khatun said that such operations will continue regularly to protect public health and agricultural land and strict action will be taken against those who violate the law in the future.
