Thousands of people trapped in water in Baghaichari, 44 affected by flood

Many houses have been submerged in the lower areas of Baghaichhari upazila, bordering Rangamati, due to landslides coming down from upstream. Many have taken refuge in shelters. The administration and local political parties are working to deal with the situation.

On Wednesday afternoon, a large area of the upazila was submerged in water. Boats are now the only means of communication.
Water has entered Baghaichhari Upazila Parishad due to increase in water. Agricultural land crops have been destroyed. Flood victims in trouble with cattle.
Locals say that there is a dam in Barobindu area due to which the dam broke and water quickly entered the municipal area. The whole area is waterlogged. Baghaichari was submerged in four floods this year.

Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shirin Akhter said, about 9 thousand people of 8 unions and 1 municipality of the upazila have been water-tight. 25 May from the district administration. Tons of food crops have been allotted. So far 55 shelters have been opened, where nearly two thousand people have taken shelter till yesterday evening. Cooked food is served there.
Meanwhile, hundreds of tourists have been trapped there due to the sinking of the Khagrachari-Sajek road due to continuous rains. Currently Kaptai Lake has 101 Mins Sea Level (MSL) water as reported by Kaptai Hydro Power Plant.
