Rainfall on Sunday, July 12, 2026, caused waterlogging on several roads and low-lying areas across Dhaka. Traffic movement was disrupted as vehicles struggled to pass through flooded streets, creating widespread difficulties for commuters.

Rickshaws, motorcycles, private cars and public buses were seen moving slowly through waterlogged roads. In many areas, journeys took much longer than usual because of reduced traffic speed.

Office-goers, students and pedestrians suffered the most. In some places, accumulated water made it difficult to distinguish between the road and footpath. Potholes hidden under the water also increased the risk of accidents.

Rainwater did not drain quickly from several parts of the capital, leaving both major roads and narrow neighbourhood streets flooded. Although water levels began to fall in some areas, further rainfall could worsen the situation again.

Slow-moving vehicles created additional pressure at major intersections and connecting roads. In several locations, drivers were forced to use the same lanes to avoid deeper water, causing longer traffic congestion. Passengers also faced difficulties while boarding buses and crossing roads in the rain.

The effects of active monsoon weather are not limited to Dhaka. Heavy rainfall has also affected several regions of Bangladesh, particularly the south-eastern part of the country. Flooding and landslides have disrupted roads, homes and public services in multiple districts.

In the capital, further rainfall may cause renewed waterlogging in low-lying areas. Commuters are advised to check road conditions before travelling, allow extra time for their journeys and remain cautious while using flooded roads.

People should also avoid exposed electrical wires, submerged electric poles and areas where deep holes may be hidden under the water.
