Putin in India for BRICS Summit; Agenda for Meeting with Modi

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in New Delhi, India, to attend the BRICS summit. During his visit, he will hold a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussions are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation between the two nations in the defense, energy, and technology sectors.

These details were reported by NDTV on Friday (September 11).
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that the meeting between Modi and Putin is likely to cover several key issues regarding defense and energy.

Discussions are expected to include the modernization of BrahMos missiles, the delivery of the remaining components of the S-400 missile system, and the supply of Su-57 fighter jets. Plans for establishing new civil nuclear reactors in India may also be discussed.

Discussion on the Ukraine War
The two leaders last met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek last week. During that meeting, Narendra Modi raised the issue of the Ukraine war and emphasized the need to end the prolonged conflict in the interest of humanity.

During his visit to India, Putin will address the annual session of the BRICS Business Forum. He will also visit the Innoprom exhibition alongside Narendra Modi.

Additionally, Putin is scheduled to hold meetings with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

However, there is no scheduled separate, full-scale meeting between Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is visiting India after seven years.
The two-day BRICS summit begins on Saturday. Top leaders from Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia will participate.

Heads of the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the World Health Organization, and the New Development Bank (NDB) will also be present at the summit. This year's BRICS summit will conclude with the release of the 'New Delhi Declaration'. Alongside the summit, Narendra Modi will hold separate bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
