Winter has set in again in Tentulia in Panchagarh, near the foothills of the Himalayas. The familiar scene of cold weather has returned to this border town. On Saturday (December 27) morning, the lowest temperature in the district was recorded in Tentulia at 11.5 degrees Celsius, which locals believe is a warning sign of the upcoming cold wave.

Most areas of the upazila were covered in light fog since morning. Due to the fog, the sun could not be seen until 9 am. At that time, the humidity in the air was about 94 percent, making the feeling of cold even more intense. According to the Meteorological Department, the daytime temperature will also be relatively low.

Daily laborers, the elderly, women and children are suffering the most due to the severity of the winter. They are feeling the pain of winter more when they go out for daily necessities in the morning and night. The Tentulia Upazila Health Department said that the number of patients suffering from cold-related diseases in the hospital is also increasing.

According to the Meteorological Office, the temperature in various areas of the northern region, including Panchagarh, may drop further in the next few days due to the influence of cold winds coming down from the Himalayas. Along with the increase in fog density at night and in the early hours, there is a possibility of further increase in the severity of the cold.

In this regard, Jitendranath Roy, Officer-in-Charge of the Tentulia Meteorological Observatory, said on Saturday (December 27) morning that the lowest temperature in Tentulia was recorded at 6 am at 11.5 degrees Celsius.

The upazila administration also stood by the cold-stricken people. Late on Saturday night, Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Afroz Shahin Khasru distributed about 300 blankets to the helpless, disabled, mentally unstable people, brave freedom fighters and people of various professions suffering from cold in the important hat-bazar areas of Tentulia. His initiative has been met with relief and appreciation among the locals.
