The early warning of winter has become clear in Tentulia of Panchagarh. Before the dawn breaks, a light fog is covering the surroundings, dew is accumulating on the grass. As the day progresses, the feeling of cold in the air increases as evening falls. Sensing the arrival of winter, many local residents have already started using warm clothes.
According to the Tentulia Meteorological Office at 9 am today, Monday (November 10), the minimum temperature recorded in Tentulia today was 16.5 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest in the entire country. At that time, the humidity in the air was 73 percent. Meteorologist Jitendranath Roy confirmed this information.
The previous day, the minimum temperature in Tentulia was 17.8 degrees Celsius. The effect of winter has become more evident in the northern region as the temperature has dropped by about 2 degrees Celsius in just one day. The Meteorological Department said that the intensity of winter will gradually increase in the northern region from mid-November.
Since evening, the local markets of Tentulia have been crowded with people selling hot tea, fried rice and traditional steamed pitha. These shops seem to have come back to life with the arrival of winter.
Local resident Abdul Halim said, “It gets cold as soon as evening falls. You can’t stay without a blanket at night. It seems that winter has come early this year.”
Meanwhile, tourist Mehedi Hasan, who has visited Tentulia, said, “The air here is much colder than Dhaka. It is great to see the dew-drenched nature in the morning. Coming here, you can really taste winter.”
Meteorologist Jitendranath Roy of the Tentulia Meteorological Office said, “Today at 9 am, a temperature of 16.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Tentulia. The temperature is gradually decreasing and may decrease further in the next few days.”
Elders from the northern region say that it is not very common to experience such cold in the beginning of November. However, looking at the situation this time, it is expected that this year’s winter will be long-lasting and relatively long.
In Tentulia—known as the 'winter capital' of Bangladesh—the advance presence of winter is like nature's silent announcement, "Winter is coming."
