One of the star batsmen of Bangladesh cricket, Mushfiqur Rahim, is standing at a special milestone in his Test career. In just two matches, he will become the first Bangladeshi cricketer to complete his hundredth (100) Test. This achievement will not only be a personal history for Mushfiqur, but it will also set a new precedent for the country's cricket.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already made big plans to celebrate this special moment. BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim said, "Playing one hundred Test matches is a huge achievement. This is a first for our country, and it should be celebrated properly. Not only the board, but cricket fans will also celebrate it."
Mushfiqur's 100th Test will be held on November 19 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, which will be the second and final Test of the series. The first match of the series will start on November 11 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The Ireland team will arrive in Bangladesh on November 6 to play these two Tests and three T20 matches. This week, the BCB will announce who will lead the Test series.
38-year-old Mushfiqur Rahim has played 98 Tests so far, scoring a total of 6,328 runs at an average of 38.10 with 12 centuries and 27 fifties. In terms of Test match appearances, Mushfiqur is followed by former Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque (73 matches). Besides, Shakib Al Hasan has played 71, Tamim Iqbal 70 and Mohammad Ashraful 61 Tests.
After the Test series, the Bangladesh and Ireland cricket teams will leave for Chittagong. There, the three-match T20 series will be held at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Lt. Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium on November 27, 29 and December 2.
