Former captain Tamim Iqbal has announced that he will contest the post of director in the upcoming elections of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). However, he does not want to stop here. The country's best left-handed opener said that he can also contest the post of BCB president if he gets enough support.

In a recent interview, Tamim said that the country's cricket is now in a hostile environment. He feels that to come out of this situation, decision-makers with a modern mindset are needed.
Tamim said, "What is happening now is not good at all. People are belittling each other, spreading lies. But now there should be a discussion - who can bring new thinking. Everyone is saying that Bangladesh has to play modern cricket. But not only the players have to play modern cricket, the mindset of the decision-makers also has to be modern."

He further added, "If we continue with old thinking, there will be problems. If I am elected, I want to ensure modern facilities for the next generation. However, if we try to do too many things at once in a four-year term, nothing will be done properly. So I will focus on a few key issues.’

According to Tamim Iqbal, the most urgent task at present is infrastructure development. He said, ‘There are players and coaches, but there are not enough facilities to develop them. Players still have to practice in the same academy ground. During the BPL or DPL, seven teams practice in one ground. However, BCB is one of the richest cricket boards in the world, with an FDR of about 130 crore taka, but it does not have the infrastructure like a county team.’

Tamim’s goal is to lay the foundation for development for the next 8 to 10 years if he gets the responsibility. In his words, ‘Nobody talks about infrastructure development. If I get the opportunity, I want to build those facilities in the next four years so that Bangladesh cricket can move forward for the next 8-10 years. For example, if you start a business, if there is no factory, where will the products be manufactured?’

The last BCB election was held on October 6, 2021. According to the constitution, new elections must be completed by October 7. The process will begin at least 30 days before that, including the formation of the election commission.

Tamim believes that now is the time to choose a candidate who can truly take the country's cricket forward.
