A group of locals have been accused of kidnapping an Awami League worker who was arrested by the police in Muladi Upazila of Barisal. The police have filed a new case in this incident on charges of obstructing government work.
The incident took place around 5 pm on Wednesday in the Ramarpul Bazar area of Nazirpur Union in Muladi Upazila. According to the police, Rasedul Islam Setu Bhuiyan, an accused in a case filed in connection with the cake cutting incident on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the Awami League, was arrested from that area.
After the arrest, some local people surrounded the police members while the police were taking him away. At one stage, the law enforcement agencies alleged that Rasedul Islam Setu Bhuiyan was taken away from the police while wearing handcuffs.
After the incident, the police contacted the locals to recover the handcuffs. According to local sources, the handcuffs were later opened late at night and returned to the police. However, the police said that the handcuffs used immediately after the incident were recovered.

The OC also said that the police station's sub-inspector Monir Hossain has filed a separate case on charges of obstructing government work in the kidnapping of the arrested accused. A drive is underway to arrest Rasedul Islam Setu Bhuiyan and others involved in the incident.
