NCP's southern chief coordinator and MP Hasnat Abdullah has strongly criticized the government's role in the clash between Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists in Jhenaidah.
At a local NCP press conference at Payra Chattar in Jhenaidah city on Monday (May 25) evening, he alleged that the police and judiciary are being used for political purposes and that party influence is increasing in the administrative system.
He said that there is a perception in the public mind that court verdicts and bail processes are also being influenced based on central directives in many cases. He also commented that such a situation is having a negative impact on the independence of the judiciary.
Hasnat Abdullah also said that after the July mass uprising, the people expected a neutral and people-oriented administration. But in reality, questions are being raised about the behavior of the police and allegations of party bias are also coming to the fore in many cases.
Tensions flared between the two parties over the incident of egg-throwing and assault on a central leader of the NCP in Jhenaidah on May 22. The NCP and Chhatra Dal filed cases against each other in this incident, in which some people were also arrested.
After the press conference organized in protest, NCP leaders and activists took out a protest march in the city. Later, the court granted bail to arrested NCP leader Tarek Reza.
