Attack on Nasiruddin Patwari, case against 8 people including Chhatra Dal leader

A case has been filed in Jhenaidah city on charges of attack, beating and looting of goods on central leaders of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP). NCP Central Joint Member Secretary Tarequl Islam Tarek Reza filed the case at Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station on Friday (May 22) night. The names of 8 people, including the top leaders of the district Chhatra Dal, have been mentioned in the case. In addition, 110 to 115 other unidentified people have been named as accused.

The accused in the case include Islamic University branch Chhatra Dal convener Shahed Ahmed, district Chhatra Dal president Imran Hossain, former president SM Saminuzzaman Samin, general secretary Shahriar Russell, former vice president Nayan Howlader, municipal Chhatra Dal president Mobarek Hossain Emon and former joint secretary Hadu, among others.

The case alleges that after Friday prayers, NCP Central Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari and party leaders and activists were ambushed by a group of people as they were leaving the city's old DC Court Jama Masjid.

According to the complaint, the attackers used punches, bricks, GI pipes, baseball bats and sharp weapons to attack them. Nasiruddin Patwari, Tanaim, Asif, Alamin, Hasibur Rahman, Nahian Khan Niaz and Ayan Rahman Khan, among others, were injured.

The complaint further states that during the attack, a Sony Alpha A6400 camera, Tamron lens, memory cards, several mobile phones and cash were snatched. The estimated value of the damaged goods is claimed to be around 1 lakh 90 thousand taka. It is also alleged that the attackers also threatened to kill them.

Regarding the incident, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station said that a written complaint has been received from the NCP and it has been registered as a regular case. The matter is being investigated seriously and legal action will be taken after identifying those involved.
