There has been a lot of discussion in the political arena of Barisal. Md. Golam Mahmud Mahabub Master, a member of Barisal District South BNP and Banaripara Upazila BNP vice-president, has resigned from BNP along with about 300 activists and joined Jamaat-e-Islami. Political analysts believe that his decision has created a new equation in local politics.

On Friday (January 30), at around 4:30 pm, Mahabub Master officially joined Jamaat-e-Islami in a courtyard meeting organized by Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidate Master Abdul Mannan in Baishari Union of Banaripara Upazila. At that time, about three hundred activists were present with him, who left BNP and joined Jamaat politics.

Banapara Upazila Jamaat Ameer Professor Md. Khalilur Rahman Shahadat, Municipal Ameer Md. Leaders and activists of various unions, Jamaat and Chhatra Shibir, including Kawsar Hossain, were present. An eager crowd could be seen in the area surrounding the joining ceremony.

Earlier on Thursday (January 29), Mahabub Master submitted his formal resignation letter to the President and General Secretary of Barisal District South BNP. In his resignation letter, he alleged internal conspiracy, underestimation and neglect of the party's dedicated leaders and activists.

In his resignation letter, Mahabub Master mentioned that he has worked for BNP for almost 40 years, enduring attacks, cases, imprisonment and oppression. Despite being a dedicated worker, he is currently being deprived and humiliated by the party, so he has been forced to take the difficult decision to leave the party. Since his resignation, there has been intense discussion and reaction in the grassroots BNP politics of Barisal and Banaripara.

On Wednesday (January 28), the day before his resignation, Mahbub Master expressed his anger in his Facebook post, writing,
‘I had a lot to give, I gave a lot, all I wanted was a little appreciation and a worthy seat. Whose failure? Mine?’

This post was widely discussed on social media.

In another emotional post, he mentioned that he had promised to stand by the party in its difficult times for the rest of his life. But now that the political environment has become favorable, he also expressed the feeling that perhaps his need has ended.

Later, sharing his resignation letter on Facebook, Mahbub Master wrote,
‘I resigned from the party built by Shaheed Zia as a victim of the terrible ego of a leader and the conspiracy of some brokers. I apologize to the sacrificed leaders and activists who endured blows and blows in the long 45 years of movement and struggle.’

This change in his political position and joining Jamaat has added a new dimension to the politics of the Barisal region. Everyone is now curious about how this will impact local politics going forward.
