Ashraful Alam alias Hero Alam, a popular content creator and politically active figure, has claimed that he has been receiving death threats every day since he announced his candidacy for the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. Highlighting his extreme insecurity, he said, “When is it right to kill? I need a gunman.”
Hero Alam said that since his decision to participate in the election was announced in the media, he has been regularly intimidated and threatened with death. He said that not only he, but his family is also living in extreme fear.
Hero Alam said that he will soon apply to the Ministry of Home Affairs for a security guard (gunman) to ensure his safety. At the same time, he drew the attention of the concerned administration to consider the matter seriously and take immediate action.
Meanwhile, he also said that several political parties are contacting Hero Alam with the offer to become a candidate ahead of the 13th National Election. However, he has not yet made a final decision on whether he will contest the election as an independent candidate or under the banner of a political party. Hero Alam said that his decision will be officially announced through a press conference in the next two days.
Hero Alam has been in the news for entering the political arena before. He participated in the Dhaka-17 constituency by-election and the 12th National Parliament election as an independent candidate. At that time, there was also an incident where supporters of the rival candidate were attacked, which then sparked discussions across the country.
With the new allegations of death threats, questions have once again been raised about Hero Alam's security. According to political analysts, the culture of violence and threats surrounding the election is worrying for the democratic environment and it is the state's responsibility to ensure the safety of candidates.
