Gopalganj Awami League leaders resign after being forced into hiding

Ten leaders of the banned Awami League have announced their resignations at a press conference in Muksudpur Upazila of Gopalganj. On Saturday (December 20) afternoon, the leaders of the Awami League of Jalirpar Union No. 17 of the upazila voluntarily announced this decision. They officially announced their resignations at a press conference organized at the South Jalirpar Government Primary School ground at 5 pm.
The resigning leaders include Jalirpar Union Awami League Sports Affairs Secretary Sagar Bagchi, Ward No. 7 Awami League Senior Vice President Ruhul Amin Sheikh, Ward No. 8 Awami League Vice Presidents Abhi Bagchi and Bidyut Bagchi, General Secretary Naresh Goldar, Cultural Affairs Secretary Shyamal Bagchi and members Shishir Bagchi, Harichand Bagchi, Narayan Goldar and Ranjan Gain.
At the press conference, Union Awami League Sports Affairs Secretary Sagar Bagchi read out a written statement signed by the 10 leaders who resigned. In his written statement, he said, "From today, Saturday, December 20, we all announce our voluntary resignation from all positions and activities of the Awami League without any provocation from others." At the time, the leaders also said that after their resignation, they will not be associated with any organizational activities of the Awami League. They clearly presented their decision to the locals present at the press conference and announced that they would completely refrain from party activities in the future.
