Former BNP MP and freedom fighter Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman has officially joined Jamaat after a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.

The meeting was held at Jamaat's central office in the capital on Saturday (December 13) morning. During the meeting, in the presence of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Akhtaruzzaman expressed deep confidence in the party's policies, ideals, patriotism and steadfast stance in protecting the country's independence and sovereignty.

At that time, he officially joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami by filling out the organization's primary associate member form.

Jamaat's Assistant Secretary General and Head of Central Publicity and Media Department Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair confirmed the matter and said that Akhtaruzzaman has expressed his firm determination to work for the rest of his life to protect Islamic values, the country's interests and independence and sovereignty. At the same time, he pledged to remain loyal to Jamaat's rules, principles, ideology, party discipline and loyalty.

It is worth noting that Akhtaruzzaman was previously expelled from BNP on charges of involvement in activities against party discipline. He is the former president of Kishoreganj District BNP and was BNP's candidate from Kishoreganj-2 (Katiadi-Pakundia) constituency in the 2018 National Parliament election. In that election, he was defeated by Awami League candidate and former IGP Nur Mohammad.

Earlier, Major (Retd.) Akhtaruzzaman was elected as a member of parliament twice in a row from the same constituency in 1991 and 1996 on the nomination of BNP.
