Comilla BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that the people of the country are looking forward to voting with ears of rice. He made this comment at the Comilla South District BNP conference on Saturday (September 27).
While addressing the conference, he said, “There was an expectation of holding such a conference in a joyful and open environment for 16 years. There was no democracy left in the country.”
Criticizing the Awami League, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “The history of the Awami League is a history of looting. According to the white paper, the Awami League has looted 29 lakh 25 thousand crore taka. With this money, the education budget could have been doubled and the health budget tripled. Mega looting has taken place in the name of mega projects. The money looted in the name of loans could have been used to build 24 Padma bridges.”
He also said, “The history of the way helicopters fired shots during the July Movement is rare in the world.”
Referring to fair elections, the BNP leader said, “The struggle to build a strong democracy through fair and impartial elections is still ongoing. Sometimes for reforms, sometimes for elections.”
He claimed that people are waiting for change and are looking forward to voting for the BNP symbol, the rice ear. “We will prove through work that people have faith in the rice ear, the symbol of BNP. There is propaganda going on about BNP through social media, and its leaders and activists will have to answer for it.”
Regarding the trial, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “If the BNP comes to power, it will definitely try. Every murder and disappearance will be tried. If necessary, the number of tribunals will be increased to try every crime. Reform is an ongoing process. Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia were the proponents of reform.”
