Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has made five-point demands including banning the Jatiya Party and 14 parties. In order to implement these demands, the party has announced a series of protest programs across the country, including the capital Dhaka. Jamaat's Nayeb-e-Amir and former member of parliament Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher announced these demands and programs at a press conference held at Al-Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar in the capital today (September 15) at noon.

He said that the current situation in the country is progressing through a constitutional vacuum. According to him, after the mass movement in 2024, the dictator Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled and the administrative structure collapsed. In this vacuum, an interim government has been formed based on the will of the people and national consensus. He claimed that the legitimacy of this government has been established in the light of Article 7 of the Constitution.

He further said that in the past, the country has been rendered ineffective through authoritarian rule, suppression of dissent, corruption and partisanship, taking advantage of the flaws in the constitution and mismanagement of the state structure. Since the interim government took office, it has been working to form various reform commissions to try the genocide, reform the state and block the path to the return of authoritarian politics. Based on the recommendations of these commissions, the National Consensus Commission started discussions with political parties on 167 proposals. Although 84 proposals were later accepted, there was no consensus on some important issues due to differences of opinion among political parties.

Regarding the electoral system, Dr. Taher said that most political parties, intellectuals, journalists, writers, researchers and academics have voted in favor of the PR (Proportional Representation) system. But no effective initiative has been taken in this regard. Therefore, he commented that the public demands must be met through mass movements.

Five demands were presented by Jamaat at the press conference. The demands are: (1) holding national elections in February based on the July National Charter, (2) introduction of PR system in both houses of the National Parliament, (3) holding free, fair and acceptable elections by ensuring a level playing field for all, (4) making visible the trial of all types of oppression, torture, genocide and corruption of the fascist government, and (5) banning the activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14 parties, which are allies of dictatorship.

Jamaat has announced a three-phase program to achieve these demands. Protest marches and rallies will be held in Dhaka on September 18, in all divisional cities of the country on September 19, and at the district and upazila levels on September 26.

Jamaat Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Dr. HM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Maulana Abdul Halim, Advocate Moazzem Hossain Helal, Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand, Abdur Rob, Mobarak Hossain and various central and metropolitan leaders.
