Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman met with President Mohammad Shahabuddin and Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus. He first met with the Chief Advisor on Monday morning and later with the President at Bangabhaban. A responsible source in the army confirmed this information.
In the meeting, the army chief briefed the President and the Chief Advisor about his recently concluded visit to China. The overall law and order situation in the country was also discussed.
General Waqar-uz-Zaman went to China on an official visit on August 21. He returned home on Wednesday night after completing the four-day visit.
During the visit, he met with top Chinese military and civilian officials, including General Chen Hui, Political Commissar of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Ground Forces. The meeting discussed issues such as strengthening strategic cooperation, increasing people-to-people contacts, cooperation in the return of Rohingyas, and China's assistance in developing Bangladesh's military industry.
According to the ISPR, the Army Chief was given a guard of honour upon his arrival at the PLA headquarters on August 22. On the same day, he met with General Chen Hui and pledged to further strengthen military ties between the two countries.
On August 23, the Army Chief met with Chen Defang, President of Norinco Group. During this time, he toured the company's military equipment manufacturing laboratory and various training facilities at the Beijing campus of the PLA Academy of Armored Forces.
The meeting is seen as important in the context of the ongoing political and regional situation.
