A case of murder has been filed against Keraniganj's Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) leader Md. Shahjahan Samrat for making a child who was shot dead on August 5 last year in Mohammadpur, the capital. According to the allegations, he planned to make the living child look dead to get compensation and grab land.
When the 11-year-old child named Jihad was shot under the Bahila Bridge, he was first admitted to Gonoshasthaya Medical College Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical. But a few days later, a murder case was filed by making him look 'dead'. 118 people were accused in the case filed on September 3, 2024. After four months and six days, it was revealed that Jihad was actually alive.
Jihad and his father Zahirul Islam Raju gave statements under Section 164 in the court that the murder case was completely staged. Raju alleged that NCP leader Samrat lured the injured July fighters with the promise of Tk 30 lakh and four kathas of land from the government. He agreed to this and signed the case, although Jihad was alive that day.
The family has been hiding in fear since the incident. Later, they bravely went to court and revealed the truth. The case has not been dismissed yet, it is in the monitoring cell, said Keraniganj Police Station OC Monirul Haque Dablu.
The child still walks on crutches due to the bullet wounds in his leg. His mother said that he had to take a loan in installments to cover the medical expenses.
When contacted, NCP leader Shahjahan Samrat avoided the complaint.
