Children's cries, mothers' wails, rescue workers searching for lives buried under the rubble — Monday night was a horrific chapter on Pakistani soil. At least 8 people lost their lives in the missile attack launched by India, 35 more were injured. Two are missing.

The attacks took place in multiple areas near the Kashmir border. India claims that they targeted Islamist terrorists. However, Pakistan claims that the attacks targeted five civilian locations. They allege that many innocent people were affected by the Indian forces' response.

Pakistan has not held back in showing military force either. It has been claimed that it shot down two Indian warplanes and a drone. However, there has been no comment from India on this matter yet.

Pakistan Army Spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said, “Most of those who lost their lives in this attack are innocent civilians. Houses have been destroyed, many are homeless. Two people are still missing.”

Pakistan was blamed for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir on April 22 that killed 22 Indian tourists. Since that incident, the situation has heated up between the two countries.

Meanwhile, India says that this attack was carried out not on a military base but on a militant base. But these explanations are meaningless to the victims. They are only crying while holding pictures of their lost relatives.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said in a strong message, “Pakistan will respond to this aggression. Our love of peace is not weakness.”

Residents of the border areas are now in extreme panic. Schools and colleges are closed, markets are empty, army patrols are on the streets. People are sleepless all night – who knows when and where a bomb will fall!

The entire South Asia is reeling from this clash between two nuclear-armed countries. The common man's only question now is, "How many more lives will it take before peace returns?"
