Jubo Mohila League leader Shilpi in jail with one and a half month old child

A court has ordered to send Jubo Mohila League leader Shilpi Begum to jail in a case filed at Tejgaon Police Station in the capital. She has a one and a half month old son.
On Tuesday, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid rejected her bail after hearing and ordered to send her to jail. She was produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in the afternoon.
The investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Sheikh Nazrul Islam, requested the court to keep the accused in jail. The application said that evidence of her involvement in the case has been found and it is necessary to keep her in jail until the investigation is completed.
She was arrested from the Railway Colony area of Tejgaon Police Station on Monday evening based on confidential information. Later, a preliminary interrogation was conducted.
During the court hearing, the defendant's lawyer Farzana Yasmin Rakhi applied for bail and said that the artist has a child who is only 1 month and 16 days old and she gave birth to the child through a cesarean section. She applied for bail on any condition.
However, after the hearing, the court rejected the bail application. When Shilpi Begum was taken out of the court in the afternoon, she was seen crying. At that time, her one-and-a-half-month-old child was handed over to her. Later, she breastfed the child while sitting on the balcony of the court. Then she was taken to the jail along with her child.
According to the case statement, Dhaka University student Md. Tahmid Mubin Ratul was shot during the student movement against discrimination. Later, several people, including Shilpi Begum, were accused in the attack, vandalism, looting and bomb explosions at her house. The case was filed at Tejgaon Police Station on January 25, 2025.
